United Airlines Family Day at SFO

October 8, 2017
Photos by Wm Kirk Moore

Farewell to the 747, Queen of the Skies

Each year Georgia Nielsen, a member of the board of UAHF, organizes a United Airlines Historical Foundation

table for Family Day at the SFO Maintenance Center. All retiree groups at United are represented, and this year the event was especially well attended because of the retirement festivities for the 747 aircraft.

In the photo are Larry Wright (representing RUPA), Marian Bruns (local RAFA secretary), Georgia Nielsen, Sharon Ramsey (RAFA member), Cicina Norton (local RAFA president), and Donna Sesock-Miller (local RAFA vice-president). Missing from the photo are Cort dePeyster and Phyllis Cleveland (RUPA), Debi Gould (RAFA) and local IAM retiree volunteers who attended earlier in the day.

There were long lines to tour the two 747-400s

The Patriots flew over and were lined up on the tarmac:

SFO fire trucks & cool aircraft on display, plus zip line rides!  Woo hoo!

Food stalls, live music, a 737 "Plane Pull" and classic cars rocked the crowd

Debi Gould & Kirk Moore were there. Also: paper airplane construction and competitions

A 747 took off to fly over the Bay for Fleet Week festivities in San Francisco

It was bittersweet to bid the 747 goodbye.
